FOAMING
Hey all,
I just installed one of my H2 systems on a friends 05 Chrysler van, 3.3 and he got 34 mpg outa that first trip, then went down. Got it in this AM to check it out and amp draw had dropped from 12 to 1.5 and there was a lot of foam on top in the reservoir. Looks like I lost my electrolyte due to foaming and I am using lab grade KOH--any thoughts? I am glad to find that it is still separating the Hydrogen from the O2 -he was very pleased with the performance improvement as well till the amp draw went away.

is this the first time you've experienced 'foaming' under these conditions using the same style generator?? There has to be an explanation, and its likely the quality of the water. Was the interior of the generator thorougly cleaned before you put the water and chemical in it? Is this a larger amp draw than you typically get?

what does your generator look like? can you post pics of it for others to copy?

No, not the first time I have had foaming, been a problem all along. Have switched to lab grade KOH in hopes that would cure the problem. Plates were cleaned by sanding then with vinegar bath. Using reverse osmosis water. Normal amp draw is around 12 amps. My cell looks like anybody's dry cell except has 2 lines for supply and 2 for exit.

How about Sodium Citrate? Is it as good for electrolyte? Does it prevent foaming?

RE: FOAMING
update-took cell apart, did heavy duty clean up-soaked plates in an acid solution then sanded them, then soaked in vinegar then cleaned with distilled water, cleaned all gaskets, reassembled, so far-so good -overnight commute and no foaming .

Pfai, i'm using Sodium Citrate as an electrolyte and it will foam if the contents aren't cleaned up. I don't know how it compares to KOH in the 'foaming' department.

Looks like you resolved the foaming issue by thoroughly cleaning your internals. Nice job!!!

Add a little bit of oil on the top of the reservoir.

The oil helps to inform the H, that he has to burn slower.

Hi, the easy way to stop the foaming, go to a pool or spa shop, ask for anti-foam, one tea spoon, and your cell is ready again.
