HOW MANY NEUTRAL PLATES?
I am building a series cell and jsut wonder how many, if any, neutral plates I need.

The design is 6 cells and only positive and negative in each cell.

Do I need neutral plates?

My plate dimensions are 3.5" X 5" X 0.60".

5 Cell Series
NaOH electrolyte
3.5" X 5" Electrodes

RE: HOW MANY NEUTRAL PLATES?
Take the lowest voltage you're going to see, 12 volts (but typically varies from 12-14) and divide by the number of cells to find the voltage on each cell (2 volts). In practice you should plan to have at least 2 volts so you'd need at least 4 volts to need neutrals.

Now you can configure your cells at (+ -) or (+ - +). I'd lean toward the 3 plate version since it should generate twice as much gas. We don't really care if you have two pos or two neg plates. I'm just showing this config to show the outside plates will be the same polarity.

With only 3 cells, you'd want to use neutrals.
