Looking up your ECU Error Codes
If you don't have your own manual with the trouble codes for your vehicle, I've found several sites that have the error code information for most makes/models/years cars. They are:

http://www.obd-codes.com/

Note that post 1996 cars in America have to abide by the OBD II standard, and this includes using a universal set of trouble codes. The 2nd like above will take you to the list of these. But also has the codes for many makes from earlier years too.
