Road Testing BMW's Hydrogen 7
BERLIN -- Jules Verne, in his 1874 novel The Mysterious Island, described hydrogen as an "inexhaustible source of heat and light." A little over 130 years later, BMW is testing the theory with an innovative internal combustion engine that burns the lightest element much like gasoline, only cleaner.
Wired News was invited to test-drive one of BMW's new Hydrogen 7 automobiles recently. It proved a serious step forward in using hydrogen as a potential energy source for cars, while showing defects that make the concept a clear work in progress.

RE: Road Testing BMW's Hydrogen 7
Unfortunately the BMW Hydrogen 7 is a dual fuel vehicle, which can only run about 60 miles on hydrogen and over 300 miles on gasoline. The biggest downside, though is that it uses liquid hydrogen for fuel and the fueling stations that carry liquid hydrogen are few and far between.

Slight correction...Jules Verne was describing Water...not Hydrogen as an "inexhaustible source.."

The end result of the Hydrogen in this case is to produce electricity, not to burn it as fuel but rather to recombine it with air to produce electricity.

The BMW Hydrogen 7 is the world's first production-ready hydrogen vehicle. It's already proving itself in the real world too. I like this luxurious car very much. It is the most fuel Efficient.

BMW needs to do more with hydrogen/EVs. I'd love to drive one.
