So, you have 4 3x6 plates with the positive on one side and the negative on the other. You shouldn't be pumping any more than 9 amps (max) through these cells, or else you may very well experience premature wear.

I do not see how in the world that could cause any problems.. I certainly do not understand how it could damage anything.
