Sad removing stuck 02 sensor
I have an 2002 Sunfire and took it to a mechanic to have the 02 sensor in the manifold taken out so I could put the adapter on it. He really reefed on it but couldn't break it loose. He told me he was afraid to put anymore pressure on it for fear of cracking the manifold. Does anyone have info on how to get the 02 sensor un-stuck?
Thanks
Rags

I've seen mechanics heat a bolt with a torch and cool it with oil to break it loose.

Don't heat the bolt that will make it more stuck heat around the bolt the metal expand when you heat the bolt and it will be even stuck worse, heat the exhaust manifold around the 02 sensor till it slightly above cherry red then it will come out with no problem. Ounce you get the 02 sensor out when you replace it with the the extender use spark plug antiseeze it helps alot when you are taking the sensor in and out. The wires will not melt the use some special high temp wires out of the 02 sensor to the plug.

If you cool hot metal with oil it will suck the carbon in the oil into the metal and make it case harden and can also cause it to be brittle and break.

Bandit, this was from memory years ago. I know immersing hot metal in a tank of oil is used to harden metal.

I think it might have been heated and cooled and then sprayed with penetrating oil after. It's been too many years.

You can also soften the metal on the bolt or nut too if it is over heated and cause the metal to soften then break. Its risky thats all I am trying to say.

I think you know more about this than I do. I just remember watching someone when I was a kid.

I have heard of a product called liquid wrench, but didn't know if that would work on something like this or not. I don't have anything that would heat the manifold that much. All I have is a MAP gas torch, which is hotter than butane. The area is so cramped I don't think it would work. I see gas here in Norhtern Michigan has just gone to $4.19 a gallon, must be the sheik needs to build another castle.

PB Blaster is one of the best for breaking bolts loose with out heat, its probably the best penetrating oil on the market.
